Rabb Di Awaaz

Logline:
"Rabb Di Awaaz" charts the transformative journey of a young professional disillusioned with life. Amidst feelings of inadequacy, a fateful encounter at the workplace changes everything for good.

Synopsis:
"Rabb Di Awaaz" is a simple, heartwarming story of a radio jockey (RJ) named Karan, who, disenchanted with the materialism pervading life, feels powerless to effect meaningful change. Struggling with loneliness and despair, he meets a 'Farishta' (God's messenger) who guides him through his challenges.

Set over 48 hours in the scenic Tricity (Chandigarh Region), primarily within a radio station where RJ Karan works, the film vividly captures the essence of Chandigarh. Through director Ojaswwee Sharma’s world, the city becomes a dynamic character in the narrative, serving as a tribute to the 'Specially Abled' and highlighting issues of mental health while advocating for the inclusion of visually impaired individuals in society. In 77 minutes, the film sensitively explores themes of societal fragmentation and psychological well-being, ultimately offering a message of hope.

Plot:
"Rabb Di Awaaz" follows RJ Karan, once the star of the Tricity, now grappling with an existential crisis. As his ratings plummet and the radio station struggles in the post-pandemic era, a contestant on his show brings a fresh perspective on life and its abundant opportunities.

The lead performances by Abhinav Sharma (RJ Karan) and visually impaired Shiv Kumar Sharma form the heart of this linear narrative, which contrasts dreams with reality and aspirations with practicality. The contestant’s impact on the sleepy town of Chandigarh is a poignant commentary on life and vibrancy.

Notably, "Rabb Di Awaaz" is India's first multi-inclusive Hindi feature film directed by National Award-Winning Film Director Ojaswwee Sharma.

In line with Ojaswwee Sharma’s acclaimed works, including the National Award-winning feature documentary "Admitted," "Rabb Di Awaaz" highlights the lives and struggles of the specially-abled. It stands as a powerful tribute to the visually impaired and showcases how integrating the 'normal' with the 'not-so-normal' can create a stronger society.

Commitment to Accessibility:
"Rabb Di Awaaz" aims to make cinema inclusive for all. The film is crafted to be accessible to visually impaired individuals and those who are hearing impaired, ensuring that its engaging storytelling and emotional depth can be experienced by everyone. It features Audio Descriptions for the visually impaired and Indian Sign Language for the hearing impaired.
The film aims to foster discussions, raise awareness, and promote inclusivity. An advanced scalable pattern for accessibility will further enhance the film's reach.

Audience Engagement:
"Rabb Di Awaaz" aims to inspire its audience by highlighting the incredible abilities and stories of persons with disabilities. The film seeks to change societal perceptions through accurate and respectful representation in media, fostering a more inclusive world. By touching on themes of mental health, societal fragmentation, and personal resilience, it encourages viewers to embrace inclusivity and support the integration of differently-abled individuals in all aspects of life.

Director Statement

As the creative architect behind "Rabb Di Awaaz," I find great joy in sharing the profound ethos that underpins this cinematic journey. This film, born out of a confluence of thought, vision, and a lofty goal, represents not just a project but a passionate endeavour to contribute meaningfully to the societal tapestry.

The Thought:

"Rabb Di Awaaz" germinated from a simple yet powerful thought – the realization that within the labyrinth of life's complexities, there are stories waiting to be told, stories that resonate with the deepest corners of the human soul. The film's protagonist, RJ Karan, embodies the struggles many face—feelings of inadequacy, the weight of societal expectations, and the battle against an increasingly materialistic world. This thought became the compass guiding our narrative, urging us to unveil the human spirit in all its vulnerability.

The Vision:

Every frame of "Rabb Di Awaaz" is a canvas painted with a vision that extends beyond conventional storytelling. The vision encapsulates a commitment to inclusivity, a celebration of regional talent, and a spotlight on issues that often linger in the shadows. Chandigarh, our chosen backdrop, transforms into more than just a setting; it becomes a living, breathing entity, echoing the struggles and triumphs of the specially-abled. Our vision is not confined to the frames but spills over into the consciousness of our audience, urging them to reflect, empathize, and, above all, act.

The Goal:

The overarching goal of "Rabb Di Awaaz" extends beyond the realms of cinema. It is a call to action, a plea for a more compassionate and empathetic society. As we delve into the themes of mental health, disability, and the integration of what is perceived as 'normal' and 'not so normal,' our goal is to dismantle barriers. We strive for a society that not only acknowledges differences but embraces them, recognizing that true strength lies in diversity.

The commitment to accessibility is not just a feature but a goal in itself. Through Audio Description for the Visually Challenged and Indian Sign Language for the Deaf and Mute, we aim to break down communication barriers, making cinema a shared experience for everyone.

In this era of digitalization, our goal extends to the responsible use of social media as a force for good. "Rabb Di Awaaz" aims to utilize the expansive reach of online platforms to advocate for the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities, challenging preconceived notions and fostering a more inclusive narrative.

Final thought:

"Rabb Di Awaaz" is not just a film; it is a manifestation of collective aspirations, a testament to the transformative power of storytelling. Our thought, vision, and goal converge into a cinematic experience that we hope will resonate, inspire, and serve as a catalyst for positive change. We invite each viewer to join us on this journey, to engage in the dialogue it sparks, and together, forge a path towards a more compassionate and inclusive world.

With gratitude,

Ojaswwee Sharma
