Best Fantastic Women Short Film
Indira Iman is an Indonesian film director and writer based in Jakarta, Indonesia. She's pursuing her BA in Jakarta Institute of Arts' Faculty of Film and Television, and is an alumna of Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) Fantastic Film School.
Indira's works have been screened in numerous local and international film festivals. In 2020, her student short horror Rong won Air Canada Best Short Film Award at the 24th Toronto Reel Asian and has been screened in some of the world's best genre film festivals. In 2019, her filmography was screened as a part of Gudskul Open House annual art exhibition.
Her works has continually explored gender, race and class in Indonesian society, and with her Indonesian roots rich in diverse indigenous cultures and beliefs, she often adds a mystical twist to them.
The horror genre is a very effective tool in communicating and manifesting our fears. In this film we want to raise awareness on fears experienced by women in the urban space, the stigmas and stereotypes about sexual harassment, such as victims wearing minimal clothing and sexual occupations that's made to justify harassment. We would like to show that these issues aren’t only women's responsibilities or concerns, but also men's. Thus, this film ask, what if we swap the gender perspective regarding sexual harassment/violence?
