ROMAGNA TROPICALE

Between 16 and 17 May 2023, a catastrophic event occurred in a large part of Romagna: a flood lasting more than 36 hours that poured 250 million cubic metres of water over the territory, causing the overflowing of 23 rivers and streams and thousands of landslides in 100 different municipalities in Romagna.
This film is a journey through lands, towns, neighbourhoods and lives affected and muddied, as well as a path leading to an encounter with Wu Ming writers collective, with militants who populate an ecosystem of struggles in Romagna, and with inhabitants from the Romagna Apennines down to lower Romagna who are trying to come up with counter-readings and analyses of the catastrophic event and the territory that received it.
Free and irreverent words denounce the failings of the institutions in making rivers and territories safe, before and after the flood. They point the finger at the gears of a development model, highly climate altering, incapable of taking a step backwards with regard to the cementing of fragile territories, the planning of major road works and the construction of commercial and residential complexes in areas of high or medium flood risk.
All this in a historical period in which an environmental paradigm shift should impose itself at every level, from politics to the economy, passing through society and culture as a whole.
