Director Biography - Antonio D. Charity

Antonio D. Charity is from Surry County, Virginia. He received a BFA degree from Howard University’s Department of Theatre Arts where he was an acting major. After graduating from Howard University he moved to New York City and performed on stage at St. Luke’s Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, The Negro Ensemble Company, New Federal Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre and many other Off-Broadway, regional and community theatres around the country.
His TV credits include appearances on “Charmed”, “House”, “The Shield”, “Law & Order”, “All My Children”, “Nip/Tuck”, “True Blood”, “Southland”, “Medium”, “Numb3rs”, “Bones”, “Sons of Anarchy”, “Shameless”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “NCIS: Los Angeles” and many others, including recurring roles on HBO’s “The Wire”, Showtime’s “House of Lies”, The EPIX series “Get Shorty”, Comedy Central’s “Tough Crowd With Colin Quinn” and most recently on Nickelodeon’s “Danger Force.” His first professional job was a guest star role on the NBC series “Homicide”, where he performed alongside Andre Braugher, Melissa Leo, Daniel Baldwin and a young Jake Gyllenhaal. The episode was directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal. He has also been directed by such notable talents as John Wells (Showtime’s “Shameless”), Don Cheadle ( Showtime’s “House of Lies”), Antoine Fuqua (Allstate commercial), Chandra Wilson (ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy”) and Charles S. Dutton (HBO’s “The Corner”). For his 60 second Allstate commercial in 2013 Antoine Fuqua, director of TRAINING DAY, THE EQUALIZER, SOUTHPAW and OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN, chose Antonio out of hundreds of other actors. The commercial features Antonio giving a 1 minute speech. He has been in television and radio commercials for Pizza Hut, Continental Airlines, Foot Locker, Lowe’s, Allstate, Miller Lite, Kmart, Xfinity Comcast, AT&T U-verse and more. He played a supporting role in the indie film “Hunter Gatherer”, starring Andre Royo, a fellow cast member of “The Wire”. Antonio played the current lover of Royo’s former girlfriend. “Hunter Gatherer” premiered in March at the SXSW festival in Austin, TX. He also appears in the indie films “Lift Me Up on Netflix and the sci-fi thriller “Abysm” on Amazon, starring veteran actor Michael Ironside (Scanners, Top Gun, Total Recall, The Perfect Storm, X Men: First Class) and Charlie Baker (Breaking Bad). In addition to numerous other independent films, he has also appeared in made-for-TV movies on Lifetime (“Carnal Innocence”, starring Gabrielle Anwar of “Burn Notice” and Colin Egglesfield of “All My Children” and “Something Borrowed”), HBO (“Something the Lord Made” with Mos Def and veteran actor Alan Rickman), SYFY (“Hydra”) and NBC (“The Prosecutors”). He was cast in a supporting role in “Bumblebee”, the most recent release in the “Transformers” franchise.
Antonio is also very active in community organizations and mentorship programs. Over the past 20 years he has worked or volunteered for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, Boys and Girls Club, and as a substitute teacher or teacher’s aide in Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. He is a mentor and founding member of The Menformation Project, a mentoring group for boys that meets at Challenger’s Boys and Girls Club in Los Angeles. For one Saturday every month, for the past 11 years, Antonio has mentored young boys at The Menformation Project. And in 2009 he and his wife began a non-profit organization for foster care kids. Kids In The Spotlight (KITS) teaches foster care kids to write, cast and star in their own short films. Once a year KITS holds an Oscar-like celebration to honor its young filmmakers. There is a red-carpet, media coverage, celebrity guests, and awards for best film, best actor, best screenplay, etc… KITS has been featured in numerous newspapers and magazines and on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Insider and other TV shows and news programs. The celebrity hosts and presenters at the annual celebration include Ty Burrell, Sherri Shepherd, Harry Lennix, and numerous child stars from TV and film.
Antonio has written an epic feature-length film called “Ten Angry Kin”, which is the very provocative story of an explosive debate between members of the faith community and members and allies of the LGBT community seated at the dinner table. He is now in the process of raising funds for this film. Visit www.CharityWorksEntertainment.com for more information about it.
