Qorqyt
In the small village of Karatau, a young Kipchak woman is about to give birth to a son fathered by a shaman from the Oghuz tribe. Meanwhile, on the other side of the steppe, the warlike and power-hungry Bey Toymadik receives a prophecy that a boy will be born who could overthrow him. The ruthless warrior cannot accept this and sends his troops into the steppe with orders to kill all pregnant women and newborns. However, the prophecy is destined to come true. From the union of the Kipchak woman and the Oghuz man, a son is born, whom the father names Korkyt. At the moment of his birth, icy stones fell from a darkened sky, striking Toymadik’s warriors who were attacking the village residents.
Korkyt grows up in a family of hereditary shamans but refuses to accept his nature, despite having prophetic dreams and visions from early childhood. Korkyt becomes a legend by the age of 15 when he defeats one of Toymadik's most bloodthirsty warriors, who spread terror among the steppe mothers. Korkyt's father and little sister fall victim to Toymadik's relentless desire to destroy Korkyt. Thus, Korkyt decides to face him. Though he was doomed to die, fate had other plans. Korkyt is helped to escape captivity by a thief who, throughout Korkyt’s life, appears at the right moment when needed. Korkyt fails to prevent the kidnapping of his cousin Kazanbek's family, his uncle and Toymadik's archenemy. But Korkyt manages to rescue them from captivity. It seemed that a bright future at Kazanbek's court was assured for young Korkyt. However, Toymadik, even from the grave, tries to reach the young storyteller. Mercenaries kidnap Korkyt, but on the way, nature, as it did on the day Korkyt was born, unleashes its fury on those who wish him dead.
Korkyt's years of wandering begin when he meets a blind old bard. With him, Korkyt goes through all the events that later will be turned into beautiful epics. It is as if something drives Korkyt away from his homeland, but his heart pulls him back like a magnet. So Korkyt comes to Gurgench to help the local ruler make the right choice in a dire situation. However, a state coup and military invasion shatter all dreams of peace. Korkyt escapes from Gurgench, where he was imprisoned in a dungeon, from which he is freed by the same cheerful thief friend. Before dying, the thief asks Korkyt to return to his homeland, now drowning in blood due to internecine war between the children of Toymadik and Kazanbek. Korkyt does not understand how he can help. But that night he has a vision, following which he crafts a kobyz. He takes the bow and plays as if he was born for it. He realizes that this remarkable instrument will help him bring peace to his native steppe.
