Andy Tidman is a non-binary creative storyteller focussed on telling queer narratives. Andy spent their childhood in the small town of Seeley’s Bay in rural Ontario where they enjoyed engaging in creative outlets such as theater and writing. Andy spent four years attending Dalhousie University to earn a Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing and Cinema studies. During this time, Andy completed the first draft of their debut high fantasy queer lead novel, and subsequently began working with an editor to ready the novel for submission to publishers. Andy is currently attending Vancouver Film School studying film production. They have worked on a number of short films in this time, and are particularly proud of the short, It Will Come Back as they had the opportunity to be First Assistant Director and to create original music for the project. Andy brought their unique voice to screen by writing and directing the upcoming film Put the Fun in Funeral.
As someone who identifies as non-binary, films like this hold a special place in my heart. I believe that stories are the best teachers. With this in mind, it is this film’s goal to not only explore what it means to confront grief, but to exemplify how to navigate the microaggressions that can occur regardless of intent, without allowing them to erode one’s sense of identity. By showcasing a queer protagonist who is sure of themselves, and characters who are willing to learn, it's my hope that this film promotes the normalization of stories where being queer is not the main plot element of the film.
