Director Statement

Dear reader,

Dane Rauschenberg was looking for someone to document his attempt to break the record for running the fastest half marathon while portaging a canoe. If you know Dane, he loves to push his boundaries and try unique and fun challenges. We were excited to be able to capture Dane's first moment to ever lift a canoe on his shoulders, adding to the drama and excitement!

When I first heard Dane's story, I pitched his team a documentary short film that could inspire others to challenge themselves to grow in new ways. I was excited both about Dane's mission and our opportunity to celebrate the community surrounding the Ely Marathon! We had a blast collaborating.

This film is first and foremost a love letter to the Ely Marathon. We are planning to come back next year and capture even more stories. As of December 2025, the marathon has been postponed due to some unforeseen financial troubles with the owners' other businesses. We're hoping this film may be a catalyst for the community to rally around the Ely Marathon and give it new life in 2026.

We hope you enjoy the film.

Jacob
