Puckheads

Logline:
A talented young coach leads a pro hockey team as they learn the ins-and-outs of life as professional athletes. With fast money and a sense of indestructibility; the unbelievably true-to-life antics of this gifted yet wild team put their careers, families, and, at times, lives at risk as they adjust to the fame, fortune, and power plays of professional hockey.

Summary:
In this half-hour comedy based on true stories of NHL players, coaches, and their family; Puckheads brings the audience beyond the boards and off the ice into a world seldom seen.

The series examines the power and political struggles within a pro hockey team while exploring a life that very few get to experience as we follow a core group of young and skillful players as they navigate the extraordinary life of a pro.

We peel back the layers and go behind the scenes of a sport with international appeal wrapped in an entertaining narrative.

Current, former, and Hall of Fame NHL players, coaches, and executives have agreed to participate in various capacities from cameo appearances to promotion including Pat Lafontaine, Wayne Cashman, Phil Esposito, Clint Malarchuck, Luc Robataille, Auston Matthews, Jordan Subban (in talks with Patrick Subban), Matt Dumba, Brock Broeser, and many more of the world’s most popular personalities. Because this story is coming from within the hockey community and the direct relationships we have, the only issue we will have with getting just about anyone will be timing and scheduling conflicts with the NHL season.

Writer Biography - Andy Salmen, Mark Vadik

Mark received his B.A. in Performance Studies and his M.A. in Theatre/Arts Marketing and Management at Northwestern University/Kellogg School of Management. He also received his J.D. from Loyola University, Chicago and is currently licensed to practice law in New York and Illinois.

Vadik was first recognized as one of the America’s “aspiring under-ground writers” in the early 90s when his poetry was featured on “60 Minutes”. Having directed and produced numerous theatrical productions for over 15 years, Vadik’s last stage play (“R3 –A Gothic Tale” –an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Richard III) was performed at The Bailiwick Arts Center in Chicago, and was named as “One of the top 10 Must Sees” for the 2004 Theater season in Chicago by Windy City Times. The Chicago Tribune has favorably compared his work and style with Sir Peter Brooks of the Royal Shakespeare Partnership of London and Robert Falls, Artistic Director of Chicago’s Goodman Theater.

“The Thirsting” marked Vadik’s writing and directorial debut in feature film. The movie, released world-wide in 2006, received critical acclaim amongst genre fans, garnered Vadik favorable reviews and established him as one of the “up and coming new director/writers in horror”. His follow up horror film “Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer” won numerous awards and establish him as a fan favorite within the horror genre.

Expanding his filmography to include more episodic projects, Vadik produced and directed the television pilot “Shut Up & Dance” for Mighty Small Pictures; produced, co-wrote and directed the pilot “Puckheads”; and, created and “show ran” the satirical weekly news program WFT News America, which began airing nationally in March 2016 for 1 season.

Vadik’s current productions include: “See Know Evil” (Producer), which is a feature length documentary about the life and work of fashion photographer Davide Sorrenti, premiered at DOC NYC in 2018 and “A Chance in the World” (Writer, Director) opened on 700+ screens nationally on May 30, 2018 and will be released on PPV January 1, 2019.
