Prospect

Surviving an apocalypse two queer angels emerge from the shingle and mother ocean to awake to future possibilities. Crashing waves, wild wind and a constant roar welcomes the two into a primaeval, bleak, desolate but beautiful landscape. Pushing through the pebbles of the shingle beach into the wind swept landscape the queer angels are ready to do good and to fight heterosoc. What are they here to do, and how do we assist them on their queer quest?

Shot in a day on Super 8 film stock Dungeness, near Derek Jarman's Prospect Cottage in August 2022.

Prospect by Helen Kilbride is an homage to the life and work of Derek Jarman. Drawing and taking inspiration from his films and writing, especially his journals, going to Prospect Cottage was a pilgrimage for me. I have been reading his diaries and he has felt like a guardian angel.

I wanted to create a short film which represented a re-birth and being buried and becoming part of the shingle beach and emerging from it felt like a new beginning.
