Director Statement

This short film, inspired by historical events relating to nuclear war and nuclear energy, in particular, the Fukushima and Chernobyl reactor meltdown - takes as its central theme our relationship to the land and our dependence on it.

In making Pragmatopia, I consulted with various individuals to ensure that my approach to the material was respectful of the traditions of First Nations, from whom much of the knowledge of food gathering and shelter preparation derives.

These individuals included an indigenous filmmaker from this region and the film's lead, indigenous actor Sage Wright, with whom I consulted throughout the production.

I hope you enjoy the film.
