Imagine how our world would look like if there was nothing left in it but plastic. The film tells the story of how plastic conquers the planet from the time it was first created in the beginning of the XXth century up to our days, and predicts the sad and lifeless future of our planet if we don't start actions against plastic now.

Director Biography - Kateryna Sazonova

Kateryna Sazonova is an aspiring filmmaker dedicated to the cause of raising awareness about environmental challenges and animal rights. Her first semi experimental documentary short film Plastic on plastic pollution was screened at more than a dozen film festivals all over the globe. The film has also been used as an introduction part at many eco educational events in Ukraine and abroad.
Kateryna is currently a student at Columbia College Chicago pursuing her MFA degree in Film and TV Directing and working on her thesis film development which will be a sci-fi fiction short about the future of our planet if we don’t take environmental action now.
Before coming to the USA for her studies she had worked at a public TV channel Offener Kanal in Magdeburg, Germany in 2019-2020. Prior to that she had completed an intensive course in Film and TV Directing at a major Ukrainian TV channel Inter in 2018 and worked as a videographer for several companies and as a freelancer, being involved in many international youth projects and exchanges also as a mentor of video production and storytelling.
Kateryna has developed her interest in environmental issues after attending Docudays international film festival in Kyiv, Ukraine in 2017. Since then she has dedicated a lot of time to researching the topic and later she had received grants for creating public educational events such as EcoConscience film screening and sustainable life masterclass in Kyiv, Ukraine and No Plastic, kids, a hackathon for school teachers in Lviv, Ukraine. She has also taken part in Land Art festival in Zaporizhzhya, Ukraine creating installations in the nature.

Director Statement

I create fiction, documentary and experimental films in a variety of genres using the tools I have available at the moment. What unites my works is their ability to evoke emotion and thought, bringing out the best what our world and we as human beings have and changing perspectives. I am convinced that with the power of storytelling it is possible to shift dogmas and bring something positive into people’s lives.
As a filmmaker I use the power of the medium of film to convey to the viewers the topics and themes that are important to me and engage them actively with these topics. I am interested in fiction, documentary and mixed forms, all in order to tell a story in the most effective way.
I am influenced by a variety of filmmaking works of different genres. I am captivated by the beauty of nature and dedicated to the cause of helping to preserve it through raising awareness on environmental topics.
