Pitou & I Against the World (ずっとお互いの味方)
As the reel begins, we are introduced to Ray and her playful pug, Pitou. The film captures their idyllic days together: early morning walks in the sunlit park, where Pitou prances with unrestrained joy, and quiet, cozy evenings at home. Through Ray’s lens, we witness the many milestones they celebrate—Pitou’s adorable first swim at the local pool with his pug brother, Puggie, whose clumsy enthusiasm mirrors his own.
The film is a poignant reminder of the simple pleasures in life and the profound impact that pets have on their owners. As the reel nears its end, it becomes clear that Pitou’s journey is not just about his adventures, but also about the way he transforms Ray’s life, filling it with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Ray Ong is a motion graphics designer and passionate instant film street photographer. With a solid foundation in 2D animation from her college studies, Ray has long been adept at visual storytelling. Her journey into photography began in 2009 when she acquired her first film camera, sparking an enduring interest in capturing images.
In 2016, Ray deepened her engagement with street photography by adopting a modified Instax Wide camera fitted with a Mamiya Universal Press lens. This gear choice marked a significant turn in her photographic practice, allowing her to capture the vibrant, fleeting moments of urban life with a unique perspective.
Ray's work focuses on documenting the daily life of Singapore and Tokyo, cities she has lived in interchangeably. Her instant film photography offers a tangible and evocative portrayal of these bustling metropolises, blending her background in animation with her passion for capturing spontaneous street scenes.
Pitou & I Against the World is Ray Ong's love letter to the simple, yet profoundly meaningful moments that define one's life. As a director embarking on her first Super 8 short film, Ray wanted to explore the unspoken but deeply felt connection between a woman and her pug. This film is a reflection on how the smallest, everyday interactions—walks in the park, shared laughter, and quiet companionship—can hold immense emotional significance.
