People of the Flaming Mountain
The Flaming Mountain town of Xinjiang is in the hottest place in China. Despite being a rural desert town, it has its own set of specialties: the Flaming Mountains, grape valley and yellow noodle & barbecue dish. The film is a mosaic of its food, culture and landscapes, told through the very people who keep these traditions going.
Yushan Abulizi, the manager of the first yellow noodle restaurant that’s been using the special recipe for three generations; Rukeya Maihemuti, who works in the Flaming Mountain in the day and runs her own shop at night, Reziwanguli and Sa’erhan Maihemuti, a family of grape farmers farming without chemicals and Mukaidaisi Abulaiti, a tour guide at Flaming Mountain well-versed in its history. The film stands to prove that without these people and their traditions, Flaming Mountain would disappear into the desert forever.
