Director Statement

For me, a documentary is not merely a record of reality, but a vessel for the lingering echoes of truth. In this film, the core gesture is forward motion—a human instinct, a historical inevitability. Using the concrete framework of WWII, I stitched together fragments of memory: the barbed wire of European concentration camps, the massacres and colonial scars in Asia, and the fire-ravaged streets of Taipei.

Amid today’s global tensions, I ask: as civilization advances, do the unresolved layers of trauma continue to follow us? The use of hybrid media is not fiction; it excavates the non-fictional essence that traditional cameras cannot fully capture. The young figure facing the train at the film’s conclusion embodies a contemporary soul confronting history’s cycles. Cinema cannot offer solutions to war, but it can allow audiences to feel, through the relentless lens, that the footsteps of history echo within us all.
