Vincent Kavanagh is an Irish self-shooting documentary director and editor based in London. His films are drawn to people at the edges of things: the quiet places where belief, grief, and meaning intersect.
The moment I met James at my local Zen Sangha, I knew I wanted to make a film with him. He openly grappled with his own suffering for all to see, and in that sharing of his own pain he opened up people around him. Throughout the course of making this film, I have learned a lot from James. Most notably, the importance of telling the truth, and the willingness to look at suffering directly rather than away from it. Everyone suffers, that is to be human. But it is not everyone who can take suffering and turn it into wisdom. I hope that by making this film I can help to share that wisdom.
