Aleksandar Valchev is a filmmaker and photographer specialising in capturing stories in extreme environments. Starting as a passionate climber, he transitioned into filmmaking and photography, working on both commercial projects as well as on various climbing and scientific expeditions across the world.
Whether filming athletes pushing their limits or telling stories of exploration and discovery, Aleksandar’s work blends breathtaking cinematography with a deep appreciation for adventure.
In addition to his filmmaking pursuits, Aleksandar is an endurance athlete who dedicates his active time to mountain biking, backcountry skiing, and sport climbing.
I’ve always been drawn to the extremes of human will. What drives someone to keep going when the odds seem impossible? What sacrifices are made in pursuit of mastery?
Viktor’s journey struck me as especially powerful—not just because of the sheer difficulty of the route but because of the deeper shift happening in his life. The birth of his daughter marked a turning point, forcing him to step away from high-risk alpinism. But the hunger for challenge never faded; it simply transformed. Parallel World became his new Everest, a place where he could still push his body to the limit while staying alive for the family waiting at home.
At its core, this film is about balance—the relentless pull of adventure and the grounding force of family. It explores how extreme sports can become an addiction, an escape, and ultimately, a way of life. Through Viktor’s story, we see both the cost and the reward of high athletic pursuit.
Visually, I wanted to immerse the audience in this unique world—where gravity is defied, and the body is tested against overhanging limestone. The cinematography captures both the incredible beauty and scary vastness of the rock and the intimacy of the struggles, blending sweeping landscapes with raw, up-close moments of exhaustion, doubt, and triumph. Narratively, the film moves between the physical demands of the climb and the quieter, equally weighty moments of family life, creating a contrast that mirrors Viktor’s internal journey.
Parallel World is more than a film about climbing; it’s a reflection on how we chase our dreams while learning to live with responsibility. It’s about redefining limits, finding purpose in new challenges, and the people who stand beside us as we push forward.
