Packrafting Montenegro

The Wild Heart of the Balkans: A Packrafting Journey through Montenegro

In the rugged heart of the Balkans lies a landscape of brutal beauty and turquoise veins—Montenegro’s wild rivers, carved deep into some of Europe’s most inaccessible canyons. It is a place where the emerald water dictates the pace and the mountains stand as silent witnesses to an ancient wilderness.

Our expedition led us through the soul of this country as we navigated three iconic rivers: the legendary Tara with its world-famous canyon, the technical and wild currents of the Komarnica, and the serene, crystal-clear solitude of the Ćehotina. With everything carried on our backs and inflated on the riverbanks, we moved through spectacular gorges hidden from the world above.

The journey was a test of spirit. We paddled through thunderous rapids, hauled our rafts over rocky portages, and camped on lonely gravel banks, falling asleep to the rhythmic pulse of the water. Between shifting currents and demanding hikes with heavy packs, we were reminded that here, nature still holds the upper hand. What we found was more than an adrenaline rush—it was a profound sense of solitude and true discovery.
