Rain streaks down the window of a sparsely furnished apartment. The only light comes from a flickering neon sign across the street, casting long, distorted shadows across the room. A woman sits on a worn armchair, clutching a book she isn't reading. Her gaze is fixed on the dark screen of her phone, which lies in silent mode on the coffee table.

The phone begins to ring. A shrill, insistent vibration that echoes through the quiet apartment. The woman doesn't move. The phone continues to ring.

Ring… Ring… Ring…

She doesn't reach for it. Her eyes remain fixed on the phone on the coffee table. The ringing continues, each vibration a sharp jab at the silence.

Ring… Ring… Ring…

The neon sign outside flickers again, casting a brief, lurid glow across her face. She blinks slowly, but her expression doesn't change. The caller persists, a relentless intrusion.

Ring… Ring… Ring…

She forces herself to look down at the screen.
PRIVATE NUMBER glares back at her.

Ring… Ring… Ring…

She closes her eyes, as if trying to shut out the sound. But the vibration persists, penetrating the silence, filling the small apartment with its insistent call.

Ring… Ring… Ring…

It finally stops...

Silence descends on the apartment once more, broken only by the sound of the rain against the windowpane. She opens her eyes, her gaze returning to the silent phone on the coffee table. She waits. The rain continues to fall.

(pause)

There's a knock at the door...
