Director Biography - Rohan Palla

Rohan Palla is an LA-based director, producer, editor, and alumna of USC film school. In middle school, Rohan built a Lego robot that solved Rubik's cubes. Although the STEM track looked appealing, he decided storytelling was the bigger challenge he wanted to crack. Inspired by Kevin Feige, Aneesh Chaganty, Scott Derickson, and more, he made it his goal to attend the USC School of Cinematic Arts. During his time, he wrote/directed his award-winning junior thesis "Chai" and was part of 1 of 4 pitches selected for $10,000 funding from the school for his senior thesis.

He has produced "Man Brows" which won Best Short Film at the South Asian Film Festival of America. His other films have taken top prizes at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, New Filmmakers LA, Goa Short Festival, and many other international festivals.

Director Statement

I can't remember the first time I peed the bed. Maybe I did? Maybe I didn't.

But I have always feared it happening the night of my marriage.

Films are a great way for me to map out situations that I fear and give them a good ending. With the curiosity of how this incident could find a good ending, we made a claim that "Pee IS FOR PREMA." Prema means "love" in Telugu. A comedy on the surface, this film dives into something that we all fear: shame. And explores how strength can come from vulnerability against the unique backdrop of Indian arranged marriages.
