Director Biography - GAYA ART

I am an Ecuadorian artist, born and raised in Quito. I have been living in France for 6 years. Drawing from my roots, I explore indigenous and ecofeminist perspectives, questioning the interaction between body-space and the body-nature connection. My art is experimental, reflecting constant growth and personal expression. I just finished a master's degree in Film Aesthetics, with a thesis on the representation of bodies in ecoporn.

Director Statement

Pachamama arises from the need to question our relationship with nature through sex and to denounce the foreign and patriarchal exploitation of the Ecuadorian Amazon. Through an aesthetic that heavily employs the juxtaposition of images, it seeks to alter our perception of sex, reminding us of the wisdom of indigenous cosmovision: we come from the earth and to it, we shall return.

I aim to deliver a social critique, using the sexual act as the central element of the discourse, because I believe in sex as a weapon of activism towards evolution.

Referencing my life as a migrant, the short film was shot in two distinct settings. The natural landscapes (waterfalls, plants, and mountains) were captured in the humid forests of Ecuador. The pornographic scenes were filmed in a studio in France. To achieve visual coherence, I recreated the rainforest landscape from scratch. This project was a significant DIY challenge.
