Experiencing Interruptions?

Out of Plastic

An obsessed engineer and their unlucky friend discover the price of creation when plastic becomes the consumer.

A modern, comedic twist on the classic creature horror genre, Out of Plastic explores the will of humanity to find permanence on Earth - through whatever means necessary. Since the first synthetic plastic created by Leo Baekeland in 1907, engineers have searched for ways to improve and expand on plastic. In this horror short, an engineer takes on the ultimate mission - replicating the immortality of plastics into a living organism.

Director Biography - Maxfield Biggs

Maxfield Biggs is a California-based filmmaker and artist. After finishing a cli-fi short made entirely in NYC parks, "Stomach of the Earth", their focus shifted towards episodic climate communication series, a cartoon about a cigarette smoking dog, and an upcoming doc about the Lahaina wildfire. Maxfield also co-founded Stranded Astronaut Productions, with a hope to use cinematic storytelling to explore social/climate justice, an ever-changing world, and all things weird about being a human in the Anthropocene.

Director Statement

The film takes inspiration from horror classics such as The Thing (1982) and Young Frankenstein (1974), and brings it into the 2020s by making plastic the subject of monstrous transformations against nature.
