Tomáš is a Czech film student. Originally an editor, he switched to directing and screenwriting during the third year of his studies at Tomas Bata University in Zlin. "Out of Order" is his graduation film.
Tomáš likes to explore and transcend the possibilities of film language, which is why his films are often unique in terms of their form or the themes they deal with.
The broken elevator as an analogy of broken personal and social relationships. Out of order is the elevator, which Viktor, an inexperienced elevator repairman, struggles desperately to fix. Just like his own life and his broken relationship with his ex-girlfriend Danča. And much as the two of them are unable to meet in their communication with each other, so too do they misunderstand the other characters that pass them by, each representing a different social dysfunction. In the end, it turns out that this very elevator may be the connecting factor of broken relationships in which, as in other aspects of life, a fall to rock bottom can be an opportunity to bounce back.
In our film, we have attempted the seemingly impossible task of encompassing the whole of today's society, which we perceive as fragmented in terms of opinions and relationships, in a twenty-minute piece that mostly takes place in an elevator. Although not primarily a comedy, we hope you'll have some laughs along the way.
