James is a 22-year-old college student attending Santa Rosa Junior College and serving his third term as editor-in-chief of SRJC student news organization The Oak Leaf.
He is currently filming an ultra-low-budget feature film, streaming video games on Twitch and composing music and writing for his Patreon. James lives in Sonoma and spends his free time watching hockey and esports with his girlfriend.
The coronavirus pandemic has derailed my life. While no one today needs to be reminded of how horrible 2020 and the coronavirus have been, I wanted to make this film as a document of our time.
To do that, I reached back in film history to two modes of filmmaking, the silent film and the film noir. Early silent film often responded to World War I, and film noir was a direct response to World War 2, so I borrowed the styles to tell a contemporary tale that felt imbued with the context of the past.
I'm very grateful to Santa Rosa Junior College for giving me the chance to make this film, and even more grateful to my ever-supportive girlfriend Alex, who starred opposite me and served as the primary DP and only other crew member.
"Out For Delivery" is massively indebted to "Detour," even using the main character Al Burton's name, but it also takes inspiration from "The Hitch-Hiker," "Scarlet Street," and "The Big Combo."
