Director Biography - Yale Fried

Yale Fried grew up as the eighth of ten children in Buffalo, New York. Perhaps it was the boredom of a small town, or the unending antics of his siblings, but he soon found himself obsessed with his family’s Sony HandyCam. The device was immediately requisitioned for his earliest short films. Yale’s many siblings made for ample subjects, and when they refused, he’d hold casting calls among the neighborhood kids. In his teenage years, Yale began competing in his local “48 Hour Film Project” where he went on to receive ever-dangerous “positive affirmation.” By 19, Yale had won the local competition and was competing internationally. At that point, he turned his energy to the terrifying world of “Film School.”

Yale received his Bachelor's Degree in Film from Emerson College, where he was also nominated for Best Director, Best Film, and won Best Television Show. Yale then fled the wintry corridors of Boston for the sunny beaches of Los Angeles. He quickly established himself as a capable editor and producer and spent his time creating digital content for small mom-and-pop-shops like Lionsgate, American Idol, GQ, Vanity Fair, and Google. He spent several years at Crooked Media as a Digital Producer for shows like Pod Save America, and Pod Save the World. While there, he went on to write and direct the original series Crooked History and oversaw the creation of hundreds of pieces of digital content before leaving the company to set out on his own in 2022. When he’s not creating #content, Yale continues to drag his friends and family into his short films. While the cameras and the technology have changed, Yale’s style of filmmaking is still deeply rooted in the intimacy of his home movie days.
