Director Statement

The film shows one day from the life of a candidate at a peak of the pre-election race, her way to the set goal. The 2020 local elections proved to be unique, while for the first time in Ukraine there was a 40% gender quotas applied, which enabled a record number of women – 140 000 people – to participate in the elections. Along with that, the majority of women who participated in the campaign, did it for the first time. And it was a triple load for them, since along with their struggle against the competitors they had to combat the stereotypes, gender prejudice, sexism. And because of COVID-19 they also had to deal with plenty of house matters. Based upon all figures and statistical data, the film shows real stories of women, a real political struggle despite the limited resources.
Our heroes are Liudmyla Petrauskene, a candidate to the deputies of the Boyarska CTC; Ievgeniya Kravchenko, a candidate to the post of head of, and to the deputies of the Feodosiivska CTC; Mykhailyna Skoryk-Shkarivska, a candidate to the post of the head of the town of Irpin, and to the deputies of the town council; Iryna Trokhym, a candidate to the deputies of the Lviv district council.
They are educated, pro-active and charismatic. And so far they have got enough professional and life experience and knowledge to be in the position to share them with the community, and they are striving to do that. Their stories prove that the place of a woman is in politics, in the army, in journalism, in a public sector. The film about participation of women in the local elections is the story about the victory, even though not all of them won the elections, while the experience is the most valuable thing in this struggle, which will be useful for those women who will join the politics after them.
