Director Statement

For this project I wanted to really focus on the human aspect. I wanted to give Michael the time and space to tell his story, and the story of his family and his people.

We had worked together on my first film 'The Sacrifice Zone (The Activist),” about the American Indian Movement occupation at Wounded Knee in 1973. So I knew some details of Michael’s life, and I knew he had a lot more to share. In his presence, I just had to sit back and listen, occasionally prompting him to continue. I simply wanted to hear his story.
