profound solitude and unwavering determination,

Itegboje Daniel is a dedicated documentary filmmaker and aspiring medical professional based in Nigeria.

Balancing his passion for filmmaking with his commitment to the field of medicine, Daniel is currently pursuing his medical education at the University of Benin in Benin City, Nigeria.

Hailing from Benin City, Daniel has immersed himself in the art of storytelling through documentary filmmaking. With a focus on addressing social issues and capturing real-life stories, he strives to create impactful narratives that resonate with audiences.

Throughout his journey, Daniel has lent his talents to numerous organizations, producing compelling documentary videos that shed light on diverse subjects. Additionally, he has ventured into the realm of music videos and advertisement videos, crafting visually stunning pieces that captivate viewers. He also co-founded a production company “3wm productions” whose main focus is based on the work he aligns with as stated above.

Daniel's talent and dedication have earned him recognition, including the notable achievement of winning the Best Documentary award at the Ibadan Indie Film Festival. This accomplishment serves as a testament to his storytelling abilities and his commitment to honing his craft.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Daniel remains committed to his medical studies. Pursuing his education in the demanding field of medicine, he aims to make a meaningful impact on global health outcomes. By combining his medical knowledge with his filmmaking skills, he aspires to bring attention to pressing health issues and effect positive change in communities.

Director Statement

"ON YOUR OWN" is a captivating documentary that sheds light on the untold stories of a group of young boys growing up to adult hood on the frigid streets of Benin. These group of boys are collectively called “Elema’s. The Elema system is a system that is greatly overlooked. Most occupants of Benin city see them and refer to them as Elema’s but don’t really understand life through their eyes. Through a deeply personal lens, the film explores their daily struggle to survive and the profound impact of their circumstances on their lives. From infancy to adulthood, viewers witness their journey as they navigate a world filled with darkness, rejection, and uncertainty. Against all odds, these boys form an unbreakable bond, creating their own sense of family and belonging in the face of abandonment. "On your own" takes us on a compelling exploration of their indomitable resilience, their resourcefulness in finding moments of joy amidst despair, and the extraordinary strength they derive from their unity. With an intimate and raw approach, the documentary challenges societal perceptions of them.
