Flora Lopategui is a new up and coming Writer and Director from London. With a BA in Comparative Literature from King's College London, Flora started her creative career as an artist and illustrator for magazines such as John, Lord Bird's Chapter Catcher. Olive is her first ever film debut as both a Writer and Director. She is now a part of Window Zebra Productions as a writer, producer and Director.
After collecting a range of hilarious and absurd dating stories, I was inspired to write Olive. I was tired of seeing the same type of relationships on my tv screen, where the man is often depicted as a stereotypical stud that often cheats or abandons a damsel in distress, hence Olive was born. I wanted to create a loud and unapologetic female character that was in no way perfect. On the other hand, I also did not want to portray the male as the villain. I wrote Olive during the first lockdown as a proof of concept for a series in 2020. We then filmed it during the pandemic, which in turn came with its own set of hurdles. During the lockdown I struggled a lot with the distressing nature of the world at the time, and so wanted to create a comedic world where one could forget, even for a minute. I am extremely proud of this project, as I feel that as a collective, we managed to come together and create something loud and colourful during an incredibly trying time that hopefully brings a smile to people's faces.
