Director Biography - Javier Márquez

Javier Márquez is a 22-year-old Peruvian-Spanish filmmaker who completed his university studies at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. He approaches his audiovisual communication studies with a cinematic focus, emphasizing ethics and social responsibility. His passion for filmmaking began at the age of 10 when he started creating short films with friends. Since then, his primary goal has been continuous improvement in every project, with a strong commitment to delivering a compelling message.

In 2023, Javier completed a short film based on the life of a fisherman in 1823. The three-year process involved extensive research, including a 23 km swim in honor of the character’s hardships. The project featured prominent figures from the local film industry. Javier was even invited to national television, where the trailer was broadcast live. He is currently preparing for the short film’s premiere at top-tier festivals while working on the feature-length version. His latest work is now being submitted to Cannes—a bilingual project in Quechua and Spanish about an event that shaped Peruvian journalism.

Javier’s motivation and passion extend beyond filmmaking; he is also the captain of a swimming team. This role has helped him refine skills such as discipline, leadership, perseverance, and empathy. His dedication to a rigorous six-hour training schedule from Monday to Saturday has made him one of the country's top sprinters. He is an alumnus of the Peruvian-German School Alexander von Humboldt. Javier is always committed to inspiring and motivating his peers, emphasizing the importance of hard work and pursuing dreams while never forgetting the fundamental value of being a good person.
