Ode
The flowerman sits to his table with a piece of paper. Grabs a feather-pen and starts writing. While he’s thinking the lighting bulb suddenly blows out. Then he squats down and grabs a new one from the drawer. Opens the box then stands up to screw it up to the lamp. The light turns up and he’s ready to work again. All along but especially in the culmination he’s raveling, breaks out of himself, changes, his feelings are out, his subjective side appears. Then he blows off embedded within the Universe.

My name is György Beáta. I was born in 1999 in Marosvásárhely, Romania. I spent my schoolyears in my hometown art school, Művészeti Szaklíceum and I graduated there in 2018. I went to University to Eszterházy Károly Katolikus Egyetem in Eger, Hungary, which has a Media and Design Department. I studied graphic design and my chosen specialization was animation. I earned my diploma there in 2023.

I started animation at University. During that time I animated shorter pieces. Like I once revisualized a little piece of Habfürdő, a feature animation film directed by Kovásznai György. I cut out a 50 second part of the sound, where the main character, Zsolt desperatly and confusedly visits his old love Anna in a black smoking, begging to save and hide him from his wedding day. My animation is black and white, I drew the frames on A4 papers. The main character is moving slowly, the hanger helps him to take his coat off, while he writhes forward then makes a turn holding the back of the sofa as he sits down to it. After he sat down his head turns up, his neck lenghtens and continues to go along the way and walk on his mustache until he reaches the glass-vase because there his head turns up and travels upwards behind the glass making funny distortions on his face, then finally he reaches the top where the flowers step aside to make place for his appearance. This animation brogueht the spirit to make my diploma film also in analog way. The title of my diploma film is Ode and I drew every frame on A4 papers. I scanned and I digitalized them to make the black and withe contrast prominently. I wanted to make somethig lyrical. This whole animation happened side by side with a long poem called Ode to Eyesight. Firstly I considered to make the atmosphere fulfilled with color and dozens of surreal cuts. But when time went by, these plans were fading out and I was looking for something new. Suddenly, a year ago in august I started the process of animating and then I realized I was stuck in the first shot. The flowerman sits by the table and writes. Then I unfolded this idea till I reached a 2 and a half second lenght film whitout cuts where he changes a lighting bulb with everlasting movements. This still animation contains everythig that the multiple-scened would have said. The flowerman works with and within the environment. The desk is the world, the space, and the lighting bulb represents his idea. Everything is changing with him, he lives in the present in slowmotion time where everything is captivable or not. He breaks out of himself, changes, his feelings are out, his subjective side appears. Then he blows off embedded within the Universe.
