Director Biography - Ximena Flores

ENGLISH
Born in 2002 in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Ximena Flores is a director, producer, and screenwriter based in Monterrey, Nuevo León, with a keen interest in exploring stories centered on drama, horror, and gore from an authentic and personal perspective.

To date, she has created projects such as Satélite, winner of the UDEM Audiovisual Projects Call, and Nudos, whose script was a semifinalist in the short film script competition at the 19th edition of Shorts México. In 2024, she received the San Pedro Municipal Youth Award in the Artistic Creation category.

She is currently in her final year of a Bachelor's degree in Digital Film Production at the University of Monterrey, working on her thesis short film, Entremés.

Nacida en 2002 en Ciudad Victoria Tamaulipas, Ximena Flores es una directora, productora y guionista basada en Monterrey Nuevo León que guarda un interés en explorar historias enfocadas en el drama, el terror y el gore desde una perspectiva auténtica y personal. Al día de hoy, ha realizado proyectos como “Satélite” ganador de la Convocatoria de Proyectos Audiovisuales UDEM, y “Nudos”, cuyo guión fue semifinalista en la competencia de guión de cortometraje en la edición 19 de Shorts México. En 2024 recibió el reconocimiento Municipal de la Juventud San Pedro, en la Categoría de Creación Artística. Actualmente, cursa su último año en la Licenciatura en Producción Cinematográfica Digital en la Universidad de Monterrey, escribiendo su cortometraje de tésis “Entremés”.

Director Statement

ENGLISH
Nudos explores the importance of expressing emotions, especially in youth. As Leila refuses to open up, her body begins to somatize her emotions, reflecting the idea that "What the mouth keeps silent, the body speaks."

This visual approach highlights the physical toll of repressed emotions, underscoring how emotional neglect can lead to physical illness. The short film ultimately reflects on the difficulty of letting go—whether in relationships or personal struggles—and the necessity of confronting one’s emotions for healing.

Nudos explora la importancia de expresar las emociones, especialmente en la juventud. A medida que Leila se niega a abrirse emocionalmente, su cuerpo comienza a somatizar sus emociones, reflejando la idea de que "lo que la boca calla, el cuerpo lo grita."

Este enfoque visual resalta el costo físico de las emociones reprimidas, remarcando cómo la negligencia emocional puede derivar en enfermedades físicas. El cortometraje reflexiona, en última instancia, sobre la dificultad de soltar ya sea en relaciones o luchas personales y la necesidad de confrontar las emociones para poder sanar.
