Private Project

Now What? SHORT

Starring Liz Saunders (FROM, MGM) and Lanette Ware (THE MADNESS, NETFLIX) Our film is set In a dimly lit cocktail lounge, where two estranged former best friends—Maxz, a once brilliant African American cryptographer, and Lenny, a cunning British Canadian leader of a notorious gang of female thieves—come face to face after a decade of betrayal and solitude. The tragic fallout from a heist gone wrong haunts them both.

Lenny pleads for Maxz’s help to decipher a cryptic message from their deceased partner, Quinn. Quinn, who died with a life-altering secret, left behind a letter revealing that the betrayal which tore them apart was a deception, setting the stage for one final, audacious diamond heist—Quinn’s ultimate revenge orchestrated from beyond the grave.

As Maxz and Lenny navigate their suppressed longings, fears, and traumas, they confront the need for forgiveness amidst their quest for redemption. In this tense confrontation with their pasts, will they seize the opportunity for reconciliation, or will the ghosts of betrayal continue to haunt them?

Director Statement

For “Now What,” I wanted to explore the tension and emotion between two former partners in crime reuniting after a decade. The film unfolds in a single bar setting, driven by the raw performances of Lanette Ware and Elizabeth Saunders. Collaborating with Lanette, who wrote the script, was an incredible journey, as her vision and our directorial approach perfectly complemented each other.

This project challenged me to focus intensely on the subtleties of character-driven storytelling. We aimed to use the lighting and tension to mirror the characters’ internal conflicts while ensuring the dialogue remained the central force. Working within a confined space allowed us to craft an intimate atmosphere that heightens the stakes and draws the audience into their shared history.

The themes of regret, forgiveness, and unresolved tension are universal, but we framed them within a uniquely personal narrative. It’s a story about unfinished business, the weight of time, and the complexity of human relationships.

We’re thrilled to bring this film to audiences and hope it resonates as deeply with them as it did with us during its creation.
