Experiencing Interruptions?

Nomad

Life was good, once. Then nature changed its mind, and life was decimated. First the plants, then the animals, then the people. It happened not long after the boy’s mother died, and today, so close to being a man, he has only traces of memory. Across a harsh and unforgiving landscape, he, his father, and a faithful canine trek towards a distant pocket of human settlement. They have only a ragged old map to guide them, and faint hope to fuel them. The merciless economics of survival in this ruined world demand painful decisions, they both understand this. But the place they seek – one that does not welcome strangers freely – will offer different challenges. Their reward might be the sanctuary they have sought for so long – or, it might be sudden and final.

FANTASIA FILM FESTIVAL'S REVIEW

“ There is a beauty and a cruelty to the more exotic terrains of Turkey, and each is captured in the rich cinematography of Emir Mavitan’s feature-film debut. Against this backdrop, Mavitan spins a spare and universal fable of struggle, strength and sacrifice. Mavitan’s 2013 short film RE-ERA was sleek, hard, near-future sci-fi, but NOMAD reaches for a something deeper and more mythic – an echo of a distant past, or a premonition of days to come. Either way, NOMAD speaks of the flame that passes from parent to child, and the inheriting of a world strewn with deep wounds – and a few precious seeds of hope.”

Director Biography - Emir Mavitan

He was born in 1993 in Istanbul. He graduated from Yeditepe Radio, Cinema and TV after Eyüboğlu College. He started making short films during his secondary/high school years and continued at university. The film Re-Era, sponsored by Yeditepe University, took the first steps in science fiction and brought many awards and acclaim. Subsequently, he began working on long-feature films. When he was in his final year, he wrote, directed and produced the long-feature film called Göçebe, a co-production with TRT. Göçebe made its world premiere at the Montreal Fantasia International Film Festival and its Turkey premiere at Istanbul International Film Festival. This dystopic, fantasy-themed film was among the few examples of its genre in Turkey. After this, he established the production department of Oflaz Media and for a while he was in charge of the digital platform called Filbox Hemen. He founded Mug Production in 2012 and still continues to work as a director, script writer and producer for cinema, TV series and advertisements.
