No Way Out
Rick visits a closed-down prison for a guided tour by retired prison guard Cornelis. In a flashback to the seventies a young Cornelis brutally molests a young female prisoner, Allaine Du Pont. There’s a growing unease between Cornelis and Rick during the present-day tour of the prison.
Back in the seventies a young Rick attends the visiting hour in the prison with his aunt Pauline. Pauline is upset by the bruised appearance of Allaine who is delighted to see her son. A loving embrace between mother and son is forcefully broken up by Cornelis who subsequently beats Elaine down.
In the present-day Rick has chained Cornelis to a chair to force a confession from him. Cornelis reacts with taunting and demeaning remarks. In a blind fury Rick bludgeons Cornelis to death, which is intercut with flashes of the young Rick witnessing the young Cornelis doing the same to his mother.

Ever since Steve Oen was a young boy he was fascinated by film. Dreaming one day he might make his very own movies. At the age of 13 he started to experiment in filmmaking. He presented his school assignments as movies, which he wrote, shot, acted and edited himself. From that year on, he made a movie every year, and he was dubbed Spielberg by his peers. One of the most memorable moments during filming, was that Steve and his crew got arrested by the police. People thought that the rehearsals for the scenes were actual gunfights and the story arrived on the front page of the local newspaper.
When Steve wasn’t accepted to the Film Academy in Amsterdam in 1996, he arranged his own internship (with the help of the front page news article of his “film” arrest) as production assistant for a daily (broadcasted nationally) live news show. After 5 years he decided to quit being a producer and focus on becoming a tv director. Steve had a succesful carreer of 15 years as a TV director for numerous famous TV shows (Big Brother, Idols, The Voice), and directed various music videos, commercials and corporate films. And after 20 years he finally had the courage to make his first shortfilm for the 48 Hour Film Project Amsterdam 2018 “No Way Out”. His debut film received the Audience Favourite Award and Award for Best Actress. The shortfilm also received many nominations, such as Best Movie and Best Director.
