Director Statement

We're absolutely thrilled to share our film, 'No Hard Feelings'.

We were very lucky and pleased 'No Hard Feelings' went on to be premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival earlier last year and went on to screen at three other Academy Award-qualifying film festivals, including Calgary, Aspen ShortFest and Athens International Film Festival and then Byron Bay Film Festival.

Having had success with our previous films, both here in Australia and internationally, we decided to mix it up and do something that we'd admired (and envied) in other filmmakers - shoot 'No Hard Feelings' predominantly on an iPhone. ( About 5% of the footage was shot on a DJI drone )

After a handful of test shoots here in Melbourne, Australia, we packed our bags, took a deep breath and journeyed to the stunning location of Canggu, Indonesia.

In all honesty, we didn't entirely know what to expect. Our intention was to shoot the majority of the film during sunrise and sunset and take advantage of the incredible landscapes and golden natural light, however we also found ourselves filming at nighttime, in the ocean and also underwater! From the moment we landed it was full steam ahead and we couldn't be more excited with the outcome.

‘No Hard Feelings’ is deliberately set in a nondescript time, so our overall aesthetic and grade has a slightly 'ageless' filmic quality. Having recently conducted a test on a cinema screen, we're stoked with how the footage has turned out - it's totally superseded our expectations.
Our film is obviously a comedy - it's absurd, ridiculous and playful - but the narrative is also infused with a genuine sense of heart, inspired from heartbreak and a time of real confusion and self-doubt. In saying that, we hope it delivers on it's happy ending :)

We hope you enjoy our film as much as we enjoyed making it.

Thanks for taking the time to consider it for your festival and we look forward to seeing you soon!
