The initial inspiration of the script derived from my own personal childhood with it’s characteristic sea town environment and a humid aura so peculiar to coastal cities, and my family member’s almost immoderate predilections when it came to “fish,” mixed with a feeling of being alone and misunderstood, a sort of me against them feeling. My childhood fantasies for a wonderful and better world allowed me to escape briefly from those familial dilemmas where I would find peace and quiet within.
The linguistic and artistic conception in the film: bonefish - (banana fish), is inspired from Salinger’s short story "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" and the Slavic mythical mermaids called Rusalka.
The intention was to combine the conflicts of imago and the cruel realistic world which constitute a grownup allegory told with the perspective of a singular child.
