Fran St Clair is an award-winning actor, writer, and director based in London. What started as an actor's desire to create her own roles evolved into the founding of Myrtle Tree Studios. Her passion for comedic storytelling was sparked by SLAY, leading her to focus on writing comedy. Her latest surreal comedy, NICE PACKAGE, is currently in post-production, and she also stars in her co-created web series DO WE EAT HIM. The series has quickly gained attention worldwide, racking up 70,000 views in just over a week, with plans to bring it into the mainstream. Other notable projects include GREENSLEEVES INC., a co-written sustainability satire that won the 2024 VMI Sustainable Script competition. Fran will take on the lead role of eco-fashion influencer Fleur in the upcoming film, which premiered at the BIFA-Qualifying Crystal Palace Film Festival this March.
Nice Package explores the experience of frustration - a feeling we all encounter in various forms. Whether it's the dissatisfaction of where we are in life, frustration with others, or even the irritation of a missed parcel. We all know that sense of being stuck, of wanting something more. For me, the missing parcel became a powerful symbol for missed opportunities and the feeling of being trapped in a life that doesn’t quite fit. It’s about the longing for something better, even when we don’t know exactly what that “better” is.
In the simplest of terms Nice Package grapples with the idea of not feeling "good enough" - and the more complex, often elusive question of what "good enough" even looks like for us. This tension between self-doubt and yearning for change is something we all navigate, and it’s something I wanted to explore in a visually dynamic way. To bring this internal conflict to life, I intentionally contrast the mundane and restrictive nature of the real world with the vibrant, almost technicolor dream sequences which serve as an escape - an exaggerated surreal space where the protagonist is free to envision a life that feels more aligned with their desires. These moments highlight the contrast between the limitations of reality and the boundless possibilities of what could be.
Ultimately, Nice Package is a meditation on the search for self-worth, the struggle of feeling incomplete, and the hope that there’s something better just beyond reach. It’s about the quiet desperation to figure out who we are, and to find a sense of peace in the process of becoming. Through this film, I wanted to create a space where frustration and aspiration coexist, where the tension between them fuels a visual and emotional journey that is both relatable and transformative. It's about hope and tenderness, seen through whimsical ridiculousness.
