Creating this short film was truly a creative journey. We all learned so much during this project in various aspects such as how to capture realistic CG worlds. Drawing from different inspirations to capture these liminal spaces, such as classics like the backrooms, some games, movies like the Truman Show, and even some real life legends like Nam June Paik. Being inspired by such a saturated aesthetic, we were really aiming to create something different and to make the theme and idea of liminal spaces our own, with our own narrative that doesn't follow the norm of this genre. I personally was really inspired by the simplicity of liminal spaces, but also wanted to explore what these environments and worlds might look like in a different context, being abandoned, damaged, etc. Some scenes, especially the ones done by Victor, were heavily inspired by the "classic" liminal style, and we struggled to stay true to the world of Nexus Laboratories, while trying to achieve these iconic scenes. All around we learned so much in many different aspects, from scene layouts, compositions, camera movements, animation, texturing, modeling, lighting, etc. This was an extremely fun project to work on.
