Newsroom Underground
Newsroom Underground is a five-part documentary film on media ethics. The film is an essay film providing an in-depth look at the history and politics of the news media, particularly in context to India's shifting economic position within global politics. Taking off its argument in favour of an unbiased and independent media space from the point of view of some of the controversial debates raging over fake news, the film takes its viewers through a journey across the world of journalism, from delving into the day to day life of reporting and editing, to a detailed thesis on the political economy of the news business. The film further analyzes the role of local newspapers and how they work at impacting the news dissemination process through the use of narrative style guides, and the way in which, finally, media laws are also slowly coming into practice. The film is narrated through a series of interviews with veteran Indian journalists, columnists, reporters, editors, a human resource manager, a photographer and photo editor, as well as with a popular cartoonist.

It also makes references to local city journalism. While the focus is on Indian journalism, the broader perspective that the film provides is one that can be of interest to any person following the economics and politics of media ethics across the world.
