New York Second
New York Second - Long form work sample for the NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre grant application.
Board members, please watch this long form work sample as well as the welcome video (on the right) we have prepared for you, which includes a greeting and a short form work sample replacement. We have come to realize the submitted short form sample could be considered a sizzle reel and thus wish to substitute it.
Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to working with you!
WELCOME MESSAGE:
Esteemed members of the NYFA Women's Fund. We welcome you.
We're here to tell you about our movie, New York Second. A film that resonates with people, that's radical about 2 ex-cons, self-love, and the pursuit of American dreams.
Hi, I'm Karina Columbus. I'm a meditation teacher and a self-love influencer and a believer in the human spirit.
Michele Evans. I'm a writer, producer, a story teller of exciting features to lift people up.
I actually have a lot of experience as a video production specialist. Whether it's in front of the camera, behind the camera, in the edit room, on-scene, as a reporter. I got my start in writing when I covered the NBA and NFL for the Denver Weekly. My work has taken me from the heights of sports broadcasting all the way down to the lows of being incarcerated in New York City's infamous Rikers Island. I studied filmmaking in NYU's film and television certificate program. I also studied acting at the William Esper Studio, The Stella Adler Studio, The Acting Studio and am a former student of Terry Knickerbocker.
Like Michele, my life is about transcending limits. From climbing Mount Fuji to navigating the streets of New York and everything in between. I'm about stories and I'm about chapters of your life and every woman I feel like can relate to that.
In a city with such a broad spectrum of stories, it's important that New York City's women are represented in every way. From every corner and from both extremes of spectrum of diversity.
This is where the fun comes in. Your support will help enable us to tell these untold stories.
We understand the gravity of this grant. It's not just about funding.
It's about sharing these stories and weaving the tapestry of these stories into our daily lives, into the lives of New York City women in a way that's relatable.
Your belief in our project will be a catalyst for change.
Together with the NYC Women's Fund, we can highlight the unwavering spirit of the New York woman and the diversity of the New York woman. And we can lay that out in a film that is intriguing and inspiring.
We hope you'll join us on this journey and help spread awareness for things such as social justice, migrant crisis, closing Rikers, even congestion pricing. These are all issues we address in the New York Second.
We hope you'll take this journey with us. Thanks again for watching our video. Thanks for supporting us and we're looking forward to working with the NYC Women's Fund.
Take care.
