Now entering its 5th year, Munich New Wave Short Film Festival is a relatively young festival based in Munich (Germany) that aims to create an opportunity for emerging filmmakers. Our goal is to support low-budget projects that create new experiences and narrate unique stories with limited resources. Understanding how filmmakers around the world work, how young filmmakers get creative to get past the obstacles of production, and how their attempts can lead to a new form of cinema/media are among the things we care about. We strive to play a small role in the emergence of the new generation in the world of independent filmmaking by helping young filmmakers, actors, cinematographers, editors and producers to be heard and to get their messages across.

For the current edition of the festival, we are resorting to a global online screening that will include a considerable number of filmmakers and film enthusiasts, introducing the films/scripts/shows/music videos to a much bigger audience.

All submissions must include full payment of the submission fee along with a functioning link for the project. A submission will not be reviewed until all required materials have been received; once everything is in place, its status will be updated to “In Consideration.” It is the submitter’s responsibility to ensure all requirements are met.

We may ask for a secure streaming link—either a non-public Youtube link or a password-protected Vimeo URL for online screening purposes. Screeners must be streamable; downloadable files are not permitted.

Since we are trying to provide a global opportunity for filmmakers and film enthusiasts alike, submissions in any language other than English must include English subtitles. If we discover that subtitles are missing, we will attempt to notify the submitter.

Please choose your submission category with care. Entrants are required to pay the fee corresponding to the category most appropriate for their work. If you believe you selected the wrong category, contact us as soon as possible. Category changes can usually be accommodated; however, entrants are responsible for any difference in fees. We cannot issue partial refunds when switching to a lower-priced category.

If your project is not finished, clearly label it as “In Post-Production” or “Work-in-Progress/WIP.” Any temporary or incomplete elements must be identified. Submitters may update their screener until the final deadline, provided the original link and password remain unchanged.

By submitting to the New Wave Short Film Festival, you confirm that your project is legally cleared for exhibition and accept full responsibility for any associated intellectual-property issues. The submitter and all contributors agree to indemnify the New Wave Short Film Festival and its representatives or affiliates from any claims, damages, liabilities, or expenses—including attorney’s fees—arising from matters such as copyright, trademarks, credits, publicity, or loss/damage of submitted materials.

Films running 45 minutes or less are classified as short films, with the exception of Micro-short films which are for films under 5 minutes. All eligible submissions are evaluated fairly by our programming team, and the date of submission does not influence the selection process. You are actually encouraged to submit your work as soon as possible.

Thank you to the Munich New Wave Short Film Festival for including our short film in the online program. This festival does an exceptional job with communication. Unlike many other festivals [that have an online program], Munich New Wave actually communicated clearly when the short films will be available for online screening. This festival is truly worth it. Thank you again, Munich, for being a great festival!
