NeoTouch
Five students use the technology 'NeoTouch', which allows users to feel touch over a distance. Their night escalates as boundaries blur and they pressure each other into sharing their experiences.
NeoTouch is a speculative design project made to create a critical debate around the future of haptic technology. The short film is set in a future where the device – NeoTouch – has been accepted widely in society and digital touch has become normality, integrated into everyday life. In this near future current issues around digital privacy and physical safety converge and are consequently amplified.

Raphaela is a Writer/ Director originally from Switzerland but based in London.
Her career started in 2017 when she attended a filmmaking course at Met Film School. One could say Raphaela jumped in at the deep end, writing and directing a proof of concept short film for a historical fantasy TV series - Once One. The project was shot in the Alps bringing together an international crew from over 16 nations.
She went on to direct two of the MA films for the Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL), one of which was NeoTouch.
Raphaela is now doing her MA in Filmmaking at Raindance and has multiple short films in development as well as the fantasy TV series, OnceOne.
When Designer and UCL student, Christine Wurth first told me about her research into the future of haptic technology, I got incredibly excited - how cool would it be to send hugs instead of emojis?
But I soon realised, that the truth was a lot darker and the consequences of a technology like NeoTouch are frightening! We wanted to make a short film that could start debates about digital safety and consent - a topic that is becoming increasingly important in the age of social media.
