Natura Naturata - English subtitles
A group of scientists monitor and screen a lake's water quality with complicated machines and apparatuses - as if the lake was a patient in hospital.
Bulldozers destroy artificial riverbanks in a channeled river in order to naturalize it. Professional ecologists throw branches into the stream. They want to give it a chance to meander and re-establish its fragile eco system.
A former military training area is now a desert and a protected wilderness region. The land seems to take its own time to digest its history of abuse: burning forests, forced slave labour under the Nazi regime and tanks rolling over the earth.
Nature has become a cultural object. Its natural state seems to be a utopia that needs to be protected from mankind.
The film essay tells of the struggle for untouched nature; nature that is not seen as an exploitable object, but as a subject, a partner.
