On October 21, 1999, Myrtle Shaw's body was found in Detroit’s River Rouge Park by a jogger. Based on the autopsy, police suspect that she was killed elsewhere before being disposed of there. She suffered gunshot and stab wounds.

Myrtle Louise Baker Shaw was born on September 19, 1966. Myrtle's youngest daughter describes her mom as a love child. Her biological mother was white and married, her father black. Myrtle was given up for adoption soon after birth. James and Myrtle Baker provided a loving stable home where Myrtle thrived. Doing well in school as well as after school activities which included playing an instrument in the school band. Unfortunately by the time Myrtle turned 16 the Baker's had both passed away and Myrtle was pregnant. At the same time the crack cocaine epidemic was running rampant in Detroit as well as other major cities in America. This would become Myrtle's demon until her death in 1999 at the age of 33. No one has ever been arrested for her murder. The case has remained cold for the past 24 years.

With advancements in DNA technology and information that has come to light via the Freedom of Information Act, we respectfully ask for your help to have the Cold Case Division of the Detroit Police Department reopen Homicide Case # 99 385. The murder of Myrtle Louise Baker Shaw.

All murder victims families deserve justice.
