My Moving Body
Adam’s stressful life, marked by a secret identity and family conflicts, is portrayed as a film production that he oversees himself as the “Director.” After his attempt at honesty resulted in a beating and vehement rejection from his father, Adam was forced to continue “playing his part” in the suffering he himself endured, compelled by the film crew in his mind who expected nothing but the very best from him.

It’s been a long-held dream of ours to tell stories about the LGBTQ+ community in the films we make, but opportunities like that are rare in Indonesia. In our opinion, queer cinema is still a genre that’s rarely explored in this country. We’ve seen a phase of films like this with Sanubari Jakarta (2012), Lovely Man (2011), Memories of My Body (2021), and others. However, we still feel that the topic of the LGBTQ+ community requires far broader representation than that. The LGBTQ+ topic must be approached with care. We also strive to write screenplays that do not portray these characters in a one-dimensional manner. It’s important to us that the audience doesn’t view and accept LGBTQ+ characters through a lens that isolates that aspect from who they are. Just like you and me, these people also have other aspects of their lives beyond their sexual orientation. With globalization on the rise and a society that’s becoming more accepting of different ways of life, We think we should cherish the freedom of expression we have.
