Director Statement

As a child of home with complicated family dynamics, My House is Mine is my reflection of the impact of a turbulent household on the young mind, creating isolation and the feeling of growing up too fast. The shadow puppet scenes, experimental and twisted interpretations of a youth’s recollection of family life, are placed inside a a dollhouse to reflect the innocent perspective of a child’s mind. Through My House is Mine I wanted to convey the importance of a parent’s role in the shaping of a young person’s view of the world. Experimental film has so much potential to showcase raw emotions through symbolism and nontraditional visuals, in the creation of my film, I wanted to share my unique perspective and creative interpretation of the influence of family dynamics.
