My Brother, The Artist is a special film for me. It is a piece celebrating and appreciating the artwork of my brother and best friend, while also opening up a conversation between creative burnout and mental health. These subjects often go hand-in-hand, with artists almost always putting their self-worth into their creations. With this documentary, we are looking to explore these topics by opening a window into the life of my brother, Devyn, an artist who is battling these obstacles. With this story, we simultaneously represent Devyn’s unique voice and shed a light on the mental health of artists. As the doc intertwines thematically diverse topics, it has the ability to reach a variety of communities which we hope to unite.
