Director Biography - Hesam Dehghani

Hesam Dehghani is an acclaimed Iranian independent filmmaker known for his award-winning short fiction and documentary films. He began his career in 2001 by producing three student films at the IUST Film Center. Following this, he established collaborations with international film production companies and producers. In 2010, Hesam founded the Persian Magic Art Group and served as Lead Producer for CollabFeature, an international collective of independent filmmakers. The team's second feature film, “Train Station” (2015), garnered numerous awards at film festivals worldwide.

His short thriller film, “Trauma” (2020), was another notable achievement, paving the way for his first feature film, “The Darkest Side” (2021). From 2021 to 2022, Hesam collaborated with Windfall Films to create a feature-length documentary for Discovery+ and Science Channel. This project, titled “Lost Empire of Persia” (2022), achieved significant international success and won the Bronze Medal at the New York TV and Movie Festival (2022).

Director Statement

Child marriage is an issue not limited to my country Iran. I believe that the girls of the new generation are stronger than their parents or even their older sisters. in "My Beautiful Doll", Rojan, is a Kurdish teenage girl who fights for her destiny and makes her decision to run away from the traditions that could murder her future.
