Director Biography - Lee Milby

Lee is a fine artist turned filmmaker based in NYC. She originally studied oil painting and performance art at The Cooper Union where she created many large scale oil paintings that focused on identity and mass production. After developing a devastating allergy to oil paint, she taught herself photography and filmmaking and has since directed multiple short films, a TV Pilot and many, many music videos.

Director Statement

The artist, J Key was generous enough to let me have free range creatively on this video. He really trusted me to create something cool and interesting, and I'm very grateful for that! After listening to this song several times, I few images popped into my mind. I saw a woman in a red dress and black eyes, covered in blood. I saw a man in a huge and empty warehouse, unable to escape. I saw a struggle, a misfired gunshot, and a vintage nurse's outfit.

I put the pieces together and developed the story of a romance gone wrong. A metaphor for how "acting crazy" or, not being in control of your emotions, can literally backfire and cause you to do something that will haunt you for the rest of your life.

We had a small skeleton crew. The unsung heroes of the day were my DP Ryan Mooney, whose knowledge and expert camera oping created some truly iconic shots (and who was kind enough to come out for a pickup shoot to get some macro shots later), and also Aria Ferraro whose unparalleled makeup skills and speed kept the day running smoothly and who hid some pretty extensive tattoos on our talent in record time.
