Director Biography - Michael Calderon

Michael Calderon is from Louisville, Ky. From the moment they had access to a camera, they knew filmmaking was their calling. They have worked on an abundance of their own short films, in and out of school. They have also worked on features from 502 Films as a production assistant. Their favorite genres are slashers, thrillers, and comedies. The idea of combining the sensibilities of all three is what led them to this film.

Director Statement

"I have always been fascinated with how cruel friends can be. Throughout my life there have been countless instances where someone who I thought was my friend was actually just using me for personal gain. There’s something so twisted, and honestly, comedic about how awful people can be to one another. This is what led me to this film, which is basically about the evil of friends. What if you were literally chewed up and spit out by them? It sounds crazy, right? Well that’s what I’m going for. Munchies is a BITING satirical thriller about how it feels to grow up as a constant 3rd wheel in friend groups."
